Dead to the world:
This year's theme, owing to the 30th anniversary of WOMAD, was 'celebrations.' What better opportunity to try out a Mexican Day of the Dead themed workshop. And what a success it was - we've never been so busy, but its never run so smoothly (but then we've never worked so hard to get it ready!)
Children could choose either to decorate our giant skeleton puppet - the centrepiece of our parade, or they could decorate an individual papier-mache skull mask.
Day of the Dead is an unbridled celebration of colour, death and new life. Best of all it calls to mind the ancestors and invites them to take a place in our world. Perhaps we would do well in Britain to take our minds from the path of progress and remember the people who gave us life!
Hope you enjoy the pictures - we will be featuring the giant skeleton and more masks for you to decorate at the Rambunctious Social Club Night of The Dead Ball, on 3rd Nov 2012, at the Yellow Room, Newton Abbot, Devon. Hope to see you there!
